Jerry Yan turned down leading role In Time With You
I love Xu Yu Ting. Not only is she is a great screenwriter, but she’s very honest and vocal. Most writers keep to themselves, but not Xu Yu Ting. She’s been exposing all her In Time With You secrets and I love it.
She stated that, in the beginning, there was worry that Bolin Chen was too young and would only be able to give a lukewarm interpretation of Da Ren. Due to these doubts, Jerry Yan was approached for the role. Unfortunately, Jerry was in training for a film and severely hurt his hand. He received medical treatment and was warned that he would need sugery. For fear that the surgery would delay filming, he turned down the role. Although, after seeing raw footage of Bolin’s acting chops, all doubts were laid to rest.
I love Jerry, but I think that casting him would have been horrible. Seeing Ariel and Jerry together would have been idol drama heaven, but it wouldn’t have resonated with us as much as it did. Bolin is awesome in bringing out the subtleties of all his characters. Da Ren’s best moments were when he wasn’t trying to be strong for everyone else and Bolin made those moments shine like no other. I’m so glad the casting was what it was. It made me fall in love with Bolin all over again and Xu Yu Ting’s words were delivered with the authenticity they deserved.
